Mark P. Del Mastro


In addition to overseeing one of the southeast's most comprehensive and dynamic undergraduate programs in Hispanic Studies, Dr. Del Mastro also serves as Executive Director of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, and Founding Director of the South Carolina Spanish Teacher of the Year program.


An active scholar, Professor Del Mastro has published an annotated Spanish literature anthology and numerous articles dedicated to 19th and 20th century Spanish literature. He is Co-Founder of the refereed journal Decimonónica and Editorial Board Member of Juan de la Cuesta Hispanic Monographs and Miríada Hispánica.

Before joining the College of Charleston in the summer of 2010, Professor Del Mastro was Head of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures & Cultures at The Citadel, where for 18 years he taught a wide range of courses that included Hispanic language, literature, culture and business. While at The Citadel, he also founded the internship program for Hispanic Language and Culture, the South Carolina Spanish Teacher of the Year program, the national Spanish journal El Cid, The Citadel's chapter of Sigma Delta Pi and the statewide Merit Certificate program for South Carolina high school students of Spanish, among other noteworthy activities.
